Effects of equipment

In the photo shoot, the key pieces of equipment that I used was the light, the backdrop, the fan and the camera.

The backdrop was extremely important to have in the photo shoot because it made the pictures stand out, the images were clear and it made it look more professional. The light was also very crucial to have in the photo shoot because it also made the pictures brighter, clearer, look more appealing and  also professional. The fan played a key role in the shoot too because it created unique, efficient and effective photos and again looked professional. The bed sheets helped me lots because for the sitting down images we needed a white background, however, the backdrop that I used didn't extend onto the floor, so having the bed sheets really helped to create that effective and professional background.

In my photo shoot I used the 3 point lighting set up to ensure that the subject of my shots was appropriately lit.

Day of the photo shoot!

On Saturday 6th February, I completed the task of my photo shoot, which was so much fun!!!
 It was really successful and everyone had such a fun time. Before everyone arrived I set all the equipment up in my living room. I had to move all of the furniture out of the way, so that I had space to put up the backdrop and the light. There was also a table for my laptop to be put on, so that I had reference to the poses on my blog, a table full of make-up and a whole sofa filled with clothes ready for changes in-between shots. We also had music playing, which created a really good atmosphere in the room. The first thing we did when Caitlin arrived was do her makeup and hair, then we put her into the first outfit and she was ready for the first of many photos to be taken. Overall, I took 800 pictures!!!!! I took so many, but this was good thing because now I have a wide variety of pictures to choose form. 
The only downfall of the day was that half way through, the fuse in the light blew. This was very annoying, but we didn't let it bother us. Instead, we had to use other sources of light, such as the natural daylight. The pictures were not as good, but it still worked out well. Overall, the day of the photo shoot was so much fun and everyone really enjoyed themselves!!!

Typography and text sizes

For a magazine, you can have a variety of fonts and each font can be interpreted in a different way. It is important to have a font that reflects and suits your style of magazine. The fonts and text sizes I use will create a conventional magazine front cover, contents and double page spread. Below are some examples of different fonts and an analysis of  them.

This font represents art, drawing, doodling, teenagers, school, art book and a comic.

This font expresses sport, video games, masculinity, futuristic and modern.

This font equates to street art, graffiti, creativeness, funky, artistic, urban, cool, skateboard parks, illegal, crime. 

This font represents boldness, simplicity, childish, plain and basic.

This font expresses something important, classy, sophisticated, professional, formal, serious, sharp, newspapers, plain, formal and posh.

You can also get 2 other fonts called 'sans serif' and 'serif', which are very popular. 'Sans serif' is commonly related to masculinity and 'serif' is related to femininity.  

If you were to put in order the different sizes of text on a front cover, it is likely going to start with the masthead as the largest, then a main cover line that references the cover image, then other subheading cover lines and then tag lines under the cover lines.

Font size can create a "hierarchy" or a sense of order on a page. E.g. the contents page would start with a heading, then underneath would be a subheading and then underneath that would be the page by page content.

For example, below you can see both 'Q' and 'Vibe' music magazines start with a big title at the top and the writing gets smaller as you get further down the magazine. 

Costumes and props

The model will be wearing the latest fashion trends, which are very funky and what my target audience is interested in. This will hopefully produce a higher chance of the magazine grabbing their attention.

Props used in the photo shoot will consist of a pair of headphones, CD's, a pair of black glasses, a snapback hat and possibly some balloons. These will all create a variety of very unique photos.

MOOC

Recently, I completed a Photography MOOC, which stands for a "massive open online course". This course was called 'The Art Of Photography'. It lasted 3 weeks and consisted of watching tutorials and answering tests at the end of each module. There were 4 modules altogether. The first one was 'light through lenses', the second was 'photography's evolution', the third was 'the digital darkroom' and the fourth was 'visual language and creative photography'. This course helped me understand lighting, backgrounds, frames, how to use the camera and the history of photography. Overall, I managed to receive 70%, which I was happy with. Doing this MOOC really helped me with my photography skills, especially when it came to doing my shoot.

Below are a variety of models that are doing different poses, which range from close ups, to extreme close ups, to medium shots, to sitting down shots and full body shots. Shooting schedule

This is the schedule for when I will be shooting the pictures for my magazine. It incorporates the timings, where it will be held, who will it be with, what everyone will be doing and the equipment/props that will be used.
