Risk Assessment

Here I have created a table that includes possible risks that could happen when in a photo shoot and how to stop that risk from happening.

Mock Ups

So far, I think I know what I want my magazine to look like, however, when it comes to the production and actually designing my pages, they could be very different to how these look. Anyhow, here are the mock ups for my magazine front cover, contents page, splash page and double page spread.

I have also been looking at existing contents pages and below are 4 examples of contents pages that I found and really liked:

I like these first 2 contents pages because they're very simple. They consist of big and clear photographs that take up the majority of the page and are very eye-catching and contain a small section of writing to accompany them. These are simple colour schemes, mastheads, fonts styles and sizes. 

I picked this contents page because I liked how there was a section of writing in the middle with a nude pink colour that matches various colours in the background.  I also liked the background of this page because it wasn't just one picture, there were multiple pictures put together in a collage. There is  more going on in this layout unlike the first two, but this is still just as eye-catching.

The Glamour contents page was by far my favourite. I based my mock up on the layout of this page. It is very simple, with a medium close up picture in it's own box, with a section of writing on the left hand side and a simple but bold masthead. The colour scheme consists of neutral colours that is again very simple, but still very eye-catching.

Double page spread layouts

Recently, I have been looking at existing double page spreads that inspire me and that I would consider my double page spread to look like. Here are 3 examples of double page spreads that I found  and liked:

I chose this layout because it is very simple. One half of the page is just a photograph in black and white, and the other half holds a section of writing that is in black with a white background behind it, which matches the photograph. The colour scheme is black and white only, which are very plain and neutral colours. The page is not overcrowded, the font style and size is very simple and I find it a very engaging double page spread. 

This particular double page spread stood out to me because of the colour scheme. The majority of the page is black and white, including all of the pictures and a section of text, and then the rest of the text is in a baby pink colour. The baby pink stands out against the dark background, which helps grab peoples attention. I also liked the layout of the pictures. On the left hand side there is only one photograph, whereas on the right hand side, the text is in the middle and there are three small pictures above it, and three small pictures below it. This is a simple double page spread, not too many colours, not overcrowded but still strikes the reader. 

This double page spread jumped out at me because of the pictures. Just like the previous double page spread, there is one picture on the right hand side and on the left hand side there is a section of text and then three pictures underneath each other on the far right hand side of the page. These pictures are in black and white, which match the text and there are splashes of red around the page, which stand out from the darker colours. Another simple, yet engrossing page.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As one of my christmas presents I got a magazine subscription to a magazine called "instyle", because I love fashion. Even though it has no relation to music magazines, the magazine inspires me and helps me create some good ideas. I receive these ideas by looking at the layout of their cover pages, contents pages and double page spreads, the colour themes, the mastheads and photographs used.

A double page spread usually consists of an article about someone and it could even include an interview. Below I have analysed 3 double page spreads that star Nicki Minaj, Amy Winehouse and Lady GaGa.

A contents page normally comes after the front cover and it hold all the information about the magazine such as, the new features, the articles and the numbers of the pages where everything is.  Below I have analysed 3 magazine contents pages, including Vibe and Billboard.
