Here is my response to question 6 in the form of a blog post with pictures and screenshots.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When I first started my As Media Studies coursework, I hardly had any experience in making and editing magazines. I have always loved photography and been a great photographer, and I have always collected magazines, however, this never needed much skill or technique. Although, now since taking media, I have learnt a whole new range of new techniques, skills and technologies. These include, creating a website blog, using sites such as, Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, Prezi, Padlet, Popplet, Scribd.com and Dafont.com.
The first skill that I learnt was back in September when I learnt how to set up my blog on Blogger.com.
Firstly, I had to create a google account in order to use Blogger. Once I had done this I was able to "Create a new blog".
Once this was created, it was then time to start the journey of my AS media studies coursework where I would post regularly about the creation of my magazine. I learnt how to write, input images onto my posts and even embed documents.
Adobe InDesign is
a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be
used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers,
and books. I used this to create the templates for each page of my magazine, then to structure and edit my magazine. It was quite tricky and fiddly to work out at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was very easy and I was able to edit my magazine smoothly and quickly.
Adobe Photoshop is an image editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems inc. Photoshop is considered one of the leaders in photo editing software. The software allows users to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct colour on digital photos. This was the trickiest software to manage, however, once I got the hang of it, it became my absolute favourite software to use. I only used photoshop to edit my pictures, but this became my favourite because of how many different tools you can use to edit a picture. I had never used any hi-tech editing software before let alone Adobe Photoshop and Indesign.
When it came to uploading documents onto my blog, they needed to be embedded onto the posts. To do this, I had to use a website called Scribd.com. This website allowed me to upload my document and the site would convert the file. Therefore, I was able to embed the given code into the HTML on blogger.
I used Dafont.com to find and use new fonts in my magazine. The website offers so many fonts in different shapes and sizes and once I chose the one(s) I liked, I downloaded it and then added it to my magazine.
Popplet is an online mind map website.
Padlet is an online interactive moodboard website.
Prezi is an interactive presentation format website.
Learning all of this new technology is key to creating and making a successful product.
